Camground Sale

Campground Sold Aug 2015

The Hahei Motor Camp was recently put up for sale with International Expressions of Interest due by 10 June 2015.

TCDC made a statement saying that although this was prime coastal land, they were not a buyer for it. Read this here.

In August it was sold to local investors who intend to continue to run it as a motor camp. The press statement outlining their plans is here.

You can watch CBRE's sales video for this on You Tube Stunning scenery!

The future

The campground is covered by a structure plan outlining what development may be done there over the next 40 years. You can view this here (pages 78-85 approx)

There has been speculation during the sales process period about the possibility of subdivision as an option.

Subdivision as such is not allowed under the current Structure Plan. A change to the District plan would be required for this. In this case, the Mayor says that TCDC would be pushing for public notification on this.

The new owners have not expressed any intention to subdivide.

We wish the new owners well with their new venture and to having them as good members of the Hahei community.

July 2016 Update

The new manager is actively and positively engaging with the community, DOC and others over issues such as pest and weed control in Hahei, water quality in Wigmore Stream and issues and challenges relating to the Marine Reserve. Great!
